Rainharvesting Systems Ltd has teamed up with award winning garden-design company Graduate Gardeners to create a garden where a special feature collects, cleans and stores rainwater ready for watering those precious plants during ever increasing dry spells.

Graduate Gardeners’ ‘Garden for Life’ show-garden incorporates a rainwater harvesting system which collects water from the roof of a small A-framed building (called the Garden Studio), and diverts it into a tank under decking at the front of the building. A cleaning system filters out any organic material such as leaves, twigs or soil, and then the water is stored until needed. The cleaning system ensures that the water doesn’t turn stagnant before it is used. So the roof of a garden shed or house can collect rain when it does fall, waits in the tank until a period of little or no rain occurs and then can be used to irrigate plants and vegetables.

The ‘Garden for Life’ demonstrates additional ways to be more environmentally-friendly as well: solar panels attached to the building’s roof generate power for the rainwater harvesting system’s pump, lighting in the garden, and a water feature; and there’s an eco-beehive plus a live wormery too.
